As a small business over the years ,I have learnt to adapt - pivot- and diversify to be able to evolve and create what we all know and love to be REW.
I am plotting a few new ideas within Rew and as my loyal followers, I want to make sure you are the first to know.
I will be needing your help over the next few months so keep your eyes peeled.
Much love

]]>
So in brief I though it was about time I update all of you REWbies who might not know much about the Rew journey so far.....
]]>Rew launched in 2011 after I had sat on a simple idea for years, I launched just before my 40th birthday and I have never looked back, read more here how it all started.
I'll start by apologising firstly (I am dyslexic, I am also a fly by the seat of my pants kinda gal) so I never ever get my written work proof read as I am too impatient 🙈.
Well, well what's been happening with REW ?
Firstly, I think I need to explain a little more about me, a few facts you may or may not know and what makes me tick !!!
I am now 51 years old .... jeeeeeez seeing that in print is a reality check, I am mom to Isobel and Dewey and Grandma to Rudy, Ferdy, and little miss Vivvy.
I made the life changing choice to move to Wales over 4.5 years ago and I truly love my new life in Wales.
Since moving here we have been hit by floods, the pandemic and now another renovation project (I must be mad).
Rew - stands for "really easy wear" however it is also my initials RACHEL EMMA WRIGHT.
I am truly in a very fortunate position I absolutely love what I do, running a small business isn't easy but it is super REW-warding, I love designing and adapting silhouettes to suit all body shapes and sizes.
I do not mass produce my clothing and the reason for this ..... because I never wanted to look like everybody else, from a young age clothing was very important to me, I learnt to sew so I could make or adapt my own clothes so I wouldn't be wearing the same clothes and I could express me.
Now I want to be able to do this for you too, so small runs non mass produced means we take our time and care when making your REWS, I also buy end of line fabrics from European mills again trying to be a sustainable as possible.
I want you to wear and treasure your REWS for years and years and DO NOT SAVE THEM FOR BEST ...... WEAR WEAR WEAR !!!!
So what is next for Rew ?
I am planning a few changes and all will be revealed soon, one big change will be almost going full circle and offering a more personal service and individual design service, I'll explain more very soon I promise.
Much Love
Rachel
We'd shut our shop 1 week before national lock down, this is so we could co-ordinate the local volunteers with those isolating and vulnerable, we organised shopping, prescription collections our phone lines became the local helpline.
Some of you will have seen back in August our shop was badly effected by a freak storm.
Just as we'd planned to open, the shop was flooded, we lost a percentage of our stock and lots of personal items amongst all my old college portfolio, it really has been trying times.
Our basement, which is where we create, pattern cut and store our stock is finally being ripped out to start the re-fit after all the damage.
With no more room upstairs I have needed to take desperate measures, today I took delivery of a 20ft container which is now sited on my drive, really not ideal but i'll do anything to keep trading right now.
I have many set backs this year but the support from all my customers has been immense and I am truly grateful.
Whilst clearing out and stocktaking we have found some old samples and many end of lines which tonight will be going on sale.
We are now officially back in lockdown here in Wales 23.10.2020 and my shop line is now the community help hub yet again.
I urge you all this year to support as many local and small businesses as possible.
I will be creating a blog about where I will be shopping this Christmas over the next few weeks.
THANK YOU 🙏 for all your support.

I won't lie since the flood at the beginning of August, things have been very difficult for us at Rew.
We lost a lot of stock and our shop has been taken over by all the remaining stock , thus meaning we can not open our shop, right now we don't have enough room to swing a cat !!!
A weekend away is just what I need right now - since moving to North wales 18 months ago, I have had little or no time to explore my new home.
So with the prospect of not opening the shop before Christmas ,I have decided to take advantage of a few weekend get aways, I may only be going down the road but some switch off time is much needed.
First on my list is this wonderful FFOREST -
]]>200 acres of rural beauty sandwiched between the river Teifi gorge and the Teifi marshes nature reserve. The farm has a range of unique accommodation from our Georgian farmhouse & Crog Lofts to geodesic domes & our bespoke shacs. We also have our own little pub, Y Bwthyn, here as well as our cedar barrel sauna and lodge.
We have opted for one of the Crog Lofts and to say I am excited is an understatement.
I will update this blog post once we have had our stay and report back.

I researched the great pandemic of 1918.
The 1918 influenza pandemic was the most severe pandemic in recent history. It was caused by an H1N1 virus with genes of avian origin. Although there is not universal consensus regarding where the virus originated, it spread worldwide during 1918-1919.
This happened without the luxury of the general public able to fly and hop from country to country like we can in 2020.
In the United States, it was first identified in military personnel in spring 1918. It is estimated that about 500 million people or one-third of the world’s population became infected with this virus. The number of deaths was estimated to be at least 50 million worldwide with about 675,000 occurring in the United States.
(somethings don't change)
I researched the images, I am more visual than interpreting the written word, (I'm dyslexic ).
The images portrayed women walking the streets covering their mouths.. It was a no brainier for me to begin making masks and face coverings.
Despite being trolled at the very beginning of my quest to develop the best fitting mask, I have pursued other options hence the MAScarf© was born.
I have waited to release this until the time was right and I had registered my design for copyright.
I have always been someone to solve a problem, this is how my button and go scarf was developed, I am sure you have all read about the start of REW?
So the MAScarf© - is a three ply Mask-Scarf I have test run the MAScarf© and I am pleased and proud to be able to release it for you.
New versions will be available weekly.

]]>So below are simple instructions which I have also complied a quick video.
Making your own fabric face mask is simple, I will try and explain in simple terms how we have constructed our basic version.
Since the out break of covid19 there has been a burst of enthusiasts making the DIY fabric face masks.
When the pandemic hit Wuhan, I began creating a simple face mask to be worn by women, men and children.
I initially came under fire as these masks are not PPE, however since the speedy spread of covid19 lots of new evidence has come to light about wearing a face mask v's not wearing one.
So whilst making my design for care homes and private customers it soon became apparent, I could not meet demand therefore I decided to give away my pattern.
Please email me info@rewclothing.co.uk

]]>As we become more environmentally aware about the damage caused by landfill, it truly is time to re-think and re-work our wardrobes.
Over the next few months I will creating short videos with clothing hacks and styling tips.
Leaving me a comment below is always really helpful if you'd like me style a particular Rew.

Slowing down fashion and avoiding clothes going to landfill.
Over the years I have received many requests to get in front of the camera.
This is not something I am comfortable with, however that said, I truly believe we have all been guilty of holding on to clothes for best only !!!
I am going to try and encourage you to re- work your existing wardrobes.

It was the amazing Prue Leith author and star of The Great Britsh Bake Off Fame.

I feel even more humbled as it was her stylists which chose her outfit two much admired stylists Jane Galpin and Claire Ginzler.

Now back to the day job and making new designs.

With one in seven women in the UK being diagnosed (CRUK), it’s likely we’ll all know someone affected by breast cancer in our lifetime.
Whether it’s your gran, mam, aunt, sister, friend or colleague; we know you love your tribe. Seeing someone you love going through breast cancer is devastating. That’s why Tenovus Cancer Care has their back, and yours, every step of the way.
Over, 22 years ago my mom was diagnosed with Breast cancer, I’d just given birth to my daughter Issy and her dad had just left us to say my world fell apart was an understatement.
Mom under went a lumpectomy and this was followed with the removal of her lymph nodes and a course of radio therapy - I’m happy to say 22 years later she’s still here, I know the worry of Cancer has never left her from pains in her neck to pains in her hip her natural reaction is “has it come back”.
I know my mom is convinced it’s tamoxifen that saved her, at the time of her treatment when tamoxifen was due to stop she insisted it carry on for another year.
This week as a small business I’m supporting the Tenovus charity whom are the pioneers in cancer research and the charity that developed this drug.
I’m a small business but doing my little bit is important so for every pink scarf or pink product sold this week I’ll be donating £2.00 from each sale. I will also be giving you free postage on any pink item purchased this week with code PINKPINK.
I have also donated, two Rew products for a REW raffle.
You, find out more about my raffle and grab your tickets here |"REWRAFFLE"
Here’s a snippet about Tenovus .
Where it all began
In 1943, Tenovus was founded by ten businessmen, D.R. Edwards, C.Harris, G. Brinn, C.E. Rolfe, D.Curitz, G.T. Addis, T.J.E. Price, H. Thomas, H.E. Gosling and T.Curitz. Initially, the charity funded a wide range of projects in the local area.
Original Ten Founders, D.R. Edwards, C.Harris, G. Brinn, C.E. Rolfe, D.Curitz, G.T. Addis, T.J.E. Price, H. Thomas, H.E. Gosling and T.Curitz
These ranged from building the Sunshine House for Blind Babies just outside Cardiff, to donating a washing machine to a widow with seven children who had lost an arm.
In the 1960s, Tenovus embarked on a project which was to influence our work for the next 40 years. We built the Tenovus Institute for Cancer Research in Cardiff which carried out vital research into the causes of cancer.
Since then, we have concentrated our efforts on cancer and are now recognised for our pioneering work.
Our scientists developed the use of Tamoxifen, now used worldwide to treat breast cancer, and Zoladex which treats prostate cancer.

I would love to hear from anyone whom has cancer has effected - I will be continuing to support various cancer charities throughout the year.
As a small business owner and currently working from the office on my sofa whilst we relocate the business to Wales, you get tunnel vision.
So this is where you come in - I am trailing a new system of news letters along with a more responsive website. My head has been stuck in HTML coding all this week and I am losing site of what works v's pretty pictures 😂.

Secondly you have been chosen to be the first to view and use the website. I am hoping to do a soft launch with you next week so you can give me your honest opinion on the usability of the website. If you click any of the links in this news letter you will currently still go straight to the old site.
Thanks again and bare with me whilst I get this all up and running.
]]>Over next few days I will be doing a soft launch of our NEW - R E W + I W F website and I need some testers that will be happy to peruse the website and give me a little feedback on the functionality and ease or not ease of the website.
Helping me out will earn you a £10.00 off voucher
(valid on all orders over £50).
It will also means you get to see some new products before anyone else.
I have lots of tweaks yet to make but slowly but surely I am getting there.
Simply comment below if you would like to take part and tell me if you are a mobile shopper - PC shopper or IPAD shopper.
REW - Remembering every War - our poppy scarves like all of our products are made here in Great Britain the midlands to be precise.
Many many companies claim the British tag except country of origin is not Britain, they get away with this by claiming designed in GB or bringing the product in from overseas and adding a small component to claim made in Great Britain - I’m super proud that everything we do at Rew is 💯% made and sourced in the UK.
We do however use fabrics from European mills as unfortunately most fabric manufactures in the uk have closed down, but I’m always keeping my eyes peeled for British made fabrics.
Our poppy scarf was designed to create a new generation of poppy wearers.
It’s important we remember the sacrifices made during all of our wars.

It's that time of year, when some of us are lucky enough to be jetting off to foreign climes.
But why take your Rew scarf ?
I will tell you in this blog why my Rews always come along for the ride.
So, picture the scene you board the plane and find your seat, you spend the next few minutes shedding your layers, as the plane hots up whilst your awaiting take off.
Then "Boom", just as your in the "do not remove your seatbelt mode" flying upwards and onwards to your holiday destination, air cabin crew activate the cold icy blasts of AIR-CONDTIONING. I am not one for air-conditioning and the last thing I want to do, is get up and down like a jack in the box to my overhead locker to retrieve my warmer layers.
So I have found over the last few trips, keeping my Rew on is the best option for stopping the cold blast freezing my neck.
My current favourite is the Casta Blush, this scarf teams itself, so well with all of my "black wardrobe".
It does however look good worn with other colours such as creams, whites and greys and denim.
Next up is the dreaded burnt neck and chest and in my case prickly heat, I have suffered with this for as long as I care to remember despite taking all precautions and as of yet found no cure.
Fortunately, I have a few various styles of Rew to choose from, my favourite holiday scarf is my SAFFY scarf.
This scarf was from a few seasons ago and fastens with an invisible magnet.I team this over my lightweight dresses or t-shirts and it looks fabulous plus hiding the prickly heat, on my neck and chest area without irritation.
Next up landing back in the UK, as we all know the weather in the uk is so unpredictable and I never arrived at the airport without wearing or at least having it buttoned around my handbag strap, you never know what you'll be met with when you step off the plane.
p.s I do also recommend taking a standard scarf as this can double up as a sarong or cover up in the heat, my favourite this season is the "big square scarf" from Zara if your going to be getting suncream all over it you do not want to be breaking the bank.
Find it here by clicking the image above

Getting married has never been on my radar, being a fiercely independent single mom, bringing two children up alone, nothing was further from my mind than finding the one.
***
So when I met Andrew New Years Eve 2014/15 (age 43), it came as a bolt out of the blue, especially when he proposed a year later whilst celebrating New Year with friends in Bergen Op Zoom in the Netherlands.
Some may say this is a whirlwind romance but let me assure you with my fair share of "FROGS" over the years, I am not one for being impulsive, let's face it, it took me 11 years to launch Rew.
Choosing our wedding venue was a no brainer, we spent such an amazing time at the "Villa Heidetuin", last year, with it holding such fabulous memories of our "Engagement" it had to be here, and in the tepee.
Don & Ingrid are the most amazing hosts and totally make you feel at home so much that I consider Villa Heidetuin as my second home ..... Oh and the food is amazing.
My amazing Bridesmaid making POM-POM'S to decorate the tepee.
A selection of the food served on our wedding day.
We have fallen in love with the "Netherlands", so each time we visit we do a little more exploring, the road network system beats the UK's hands down for navigating around easily.
On our last visit to arrange the venue, we explored "Delft" a beautiful chocolate box city in the Netherlands famous for its pottery.
It's here I met the lovely Lies De Vooght Edelsmid who makes the most delicate gold jewellery, she designed a very thin wedding band for me so that it would fit neatly under my beautiful engagement ring, which Andy had made by Jinks McGrath.
Lies even laser cut the date of our Engagement into the inside of the ring, and unbeknown to me upon Andy's request she made me a delicate gold bangle as a wedding gift from my lovely "Hubby". I knew he was a keeper !!!!
It was obvious I would be making my own, not one but two!!!!
The reason for this is because we had so much arranged for the day and evening one dress was just not enough !!!!
As some of you may know due to me being unable to contain my excitement, I only started making my wedding dress 4 weeks before were due to travel. This I do not recommend, anyone who is thinking of making their own dress, start it at least 3 months ahead of schedule, although the stress of it aided the weight loss!!
I chose a beautiful silk/raffia fabric in cream and always knew it would be a two piece, I just love a big skirt with pockets. Having trained as a milliner many moons ago I also needed a hat too!!!!
I won't bore you with the trials and tribulations of the making of the dress but I will show you some pictures so you can see my start and end point.
Now this bouquet. I love it as it's for keeps. Due to the traveling times before our wedding I needed a bouquet that would still be alive 6 days later. With the help of "Lisa Polkington" from "The lovely flower studio" we decided upon using air-plants, we also made a mini version for my Bridesmaid.
Lisa also created the lovely button holes for the men which matched our winter themed wedding perfectly.
Myself and Andy have dyslexia so firstly the writing of our vows and ceremony was no mean feat, a little like this blog I am writing now, so if you spot a mistake or two please forgive me.
The villa, has just five bedrooms we knew we wanted a personal and intimate wedding and this was perfect as it limited our guest list.
We chose to have our "FRAMILY" (friends you'd chose as family).
So Andy chose his two best friends and their partners and I chose mine.
Now we needed to find an independent marriage registrar, this was actually very easy, we found "Jacomien" via a Dutch call out from the local marriage registrar to "Bergen Op Zoom", as she did not speak English.
Jacomien, speaks 5 languages so with us having a few German guests this was perfect.
We visited Jacomien in her home in Renesse, so she could learn more about me and Andy.
Renesse is amazing, if you would like to explore some beautiful beaches in the Netherlands this is a must. When we are in Renesse we always take a walk along the beach and pop into the most amazing sea food restaurant "OUR SEASIDE".
*
The ceremony was everything and more we could have wished for, Jacomien told our wedding guests, our story in our words. Everyone was introduced via a personal message written by all of us (this was homework we had to do before the ceremony).
Again a few tears shed.
Once we had all been introduced it was time for our vows !!! This is the part where we both cried like little kids, but it was fine, we were amongst our "FRAMILY". Besides I don't think there was a dry eye in the tepee.
Me and the hubby.
My brother who gave me away signing the register
My brother and my bestie friend "The bridesmaid" Mrs Pastoors.
We partied the rest of the night away in the town itself.
Traditionally on New years eve café Het Zwijnshoofd have always entertained with a local Dixie band which was formed back in 1973.
So with our wedding guests in tow, we entered the rather busy café Het Zwijnshoofd we was met with such warmth from all the local people that we felt like mini celebrities.
The dixie band soon ushered myself and Andy into the centre of the room and then by default we had our first dance to "TRUE LOVE -Bing Crosby". This could not have been more perfect having loved the film "High Society" Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly.
My bridesmaid Claire quoted to myself and Andy from F. Scott Fitzgerald.
"They slipped briskly into an intimacy from which they never recovered".

"and I truly believe they never will"

I maybe stating the obvious but Christmas it literally just round the corner.
With so much choice on the high street and online, how do you decide what to buy for all those special friends and family.?
I am often asked, how customers find us ? and why do they choose Rew ?
We are very fortunate here at Rew, as we have lovely loyal customers who, sing our praises and spread the good word of our tiny little business.
So with this in mind it got me thinking about all the lovely little independent businesses I have come across since starting Rew.
Many are like myself, busy moms with a crazy idea !!!! that grew and grew from a hobby to a business.
This Christmas I want to share a few of my favourites with you.
I have certainly shopped out !!!

Stylish teething jewellery for mum to wear, baby to chew
Bo&Bel stand out from the crowd because we give mums a design led accessory that is as much about baby teething as it is about the mum feeling stylish.
Launched online in October 2014 and now available in retailers throughout the UK and internationally.
Babies grab everything! Not only do they grab everything, they put everything in their mouths. So when I’d had little hands pull and break my necklaces I gave up on wearing jewellery and felt I’d lost my sense of style. Most new mums I spoke to felt the same as me so I was passionate that I could provide the perfect solution. I started to design our silicone teething necklaces to enable mums to wear jewellery again that is safe, stylish and practical. And so Bo&Bel was born.
They are made from 100% food grade silicone and meeting EN71 regulations. We choose fun, bright colours and a variety of bead shapes to give mum the choice on what she wants to wear, as you would when shopping for fashion jewellery.
When receiving our jewellery mum feels they are getting a treat for themselves as much as a safe, practical teether for their baby.

Hand crafted concrete & copper candle holder. We have hand brushed a special copper paint onto the concrete to create a unique printed piece.
We mix our concrete with various other binders to ensure a sturdy and strong candle holder. All of our goods are handmade so each one will be different and unique. As concrete forms air bubbles, there may well be a couple of small defects but this only adds to its, industrial look.

Here are just a few images from the birthday night.
So this is truly exciting news, since the birth of her first child, my daughter Isobel age just 19.5 has been planning and executing the building of a small online concept store.
Some may say she's a "chip off the old block", however I waited till I was 40 to launch my business, so I am guessing she has more confidence and drive than I did at her age.
So how did it all come about ?
Whilst pregnant with Rudy Isobel really wanted to get her teeth stuck into something she enjoyed and like most of us this was shopping !
However this was not for herself but for others. Isobel has a natural ability to select and source the most simplicitic of items from clothing, jewellery, ceramics to stylish lamps for the home.
Isobel carefully selects handmade artisans from all over the world, she is trying to avoid the mass produced products in favour of supporting smaller businesses that sometimes to not get the exposure. I know she Is really excited to show you some sneaky peaks of what is to come.
It's quite ironic that I apparently have inspired Issy to launch this business when over 14 years ago she inspired mine.
Issy came to me one day and explained, as she was growing up, she would regularly hear people asking myself or my stylish friends "I love your necklace where did you get that from ?", or "Those shoes are to die for where did you buy them?".
So after much toying with ideas she asked if I would help her source our beautiful buys and bring them to life on a website.
and
It was from.com was born.
She is still a few weeks away from launching the online store but between us we have made some space in my Rew studios and now she has joined me in the business journey.

Being young (Grandma) was never something I had anticipated so, when my daughter, pregnant with her first child, asked what I would like to be called on its arrival, I admit this was the bolt that struck my chord and sent me spinning into denial, I now did not want to admit my age. " Granny, Grandma and nanny I have to confess gave me shudders of ageism.
All of the above references to becoming a Grandparent admittedly made me feel old!! I am only (44)
So having never conformed to what in society is deemed normal, I opted for Ma-Ma which in reality is far easier for the poor little devil to pronounce. This new found made up word gave me a modern twist and still allowed me to feel my rightful age.
I am however very grateful to my daughter, whom has blessed me with a beautiful grandson and still at the age I can truly appreciate his total gorgeousness.
I am sure you all have some funny names that your darling grandchildren have called you over the years, whether intentional or by the mis-pronunciation and I would love to hear all about them. The funniest and most candid story on becoming a grandparent will win an lovely new Rew and feature here in our blog pages.
Come on all you lovely Glamorous Grannies get those pens to paper or fingers to the keyboard.
We would really love a snap shot of you, so please upload a small image or send us a photograph of yourself although we welcome all cute baby pictures too.

Todays blog has been written by Lisa Kowalski a working Mum of 2 who has a slight addiction to fashion, put together with photos from our latest fashion shoot.
STRIPES
I just can’t get enough of them this summer!
From classic Breton to monochrome madness I love them all. That is why my Casta REW is my go to of the season. From haute couture to high street black and white, simple styling makes me feel a million dollars even when the days are dull and grey. The weather at the moment is so unpredictable one minute I’m boiling hot and stripping off, the next I’m piling the layers back on - and I’m not even at the age for hot flushes (well not just yet anyway)- thank goodness for the button and go design of a REW scarf. Can you imagine trying to tie such a beauty?? I’m picturing the morning mayhem of school rush and getting ready for work, feeling like a parrot shouting repeatedly at the kids to “hurry up!” and “get your shoes on!” in my lovely zingy orange work coat whilst going through the mental checklist of have I got everything?? There I would be standing at the mirror trying to follow the tying instructions – Step one: take lovely stripy fabric and drape around ones neck etc. etc. – only to have my concentration broken every 2 seconds by calls of “Mum do I need my PE kit today?” “Mum I can’t find my shoe!” “Honey what’s for dinner tonight? Don’t forget my Mother’s popping round for dinner too!” aarrghhh the resultant scarf would not look anything like the actual gorgeousness that it is.
However, not only does the button and go simplicity of my REW eliminate morning fashion dramas, it allows me to transition from day to evening. With a super quick change of jacket into my slinky biker bomber, and donning my monochrome flatform sandals I’m all ready to go meet my girlfriends for an overdue catch up over dinner.
“Oh and darling – I’ll let you decide what you would like for dinner and say “Hi” to the mother-in-law – I did tell you two weeks ago I was out this evening!!”
